Approve PANDAS & PANS as recognised childhood conditions in the NHS
The Issue
PANDAS (Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus) and PANS (Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) are poorly recognised conditions in the UK with only 10% of GP's being familiar with these conditions. The impact on the child and their families is enormous. Many of these children are misdiagnosed as autistic despite the fact that these are reversible and treatable conditions. The World Health Organisation has accepted PANDAS as a recognised disease within it's latest classification of diseases. The Children's e-Hospital with others are campaigning to raise the profile of theses conditions and to enable parent to get prompt treatment quickly wherever they live.
