Change your computer system so that it doesn’t misgender people who are transgender

The Issue

A request to use Mx as a title was declined because "we need to record a donor's gender specifically since females are not allowed to donate before 16 weeks have elapsed... plus iron levels are measured in a different way depending on whether the donor is male or female" (full copy of lettter available here http://mxactivist.tumblr.com/post/101505541745).

EDIT: This section has been edited as we've now had confirmation that binary-gendered trans men and women can have their gender correctly recognised.

We consider it unfair and unnecessary that nonbinary-gendered donors have to be misgendered to donate blood when a simple change to your recording system to record physical characteristics which might affect donation separately could prevent this.

We would like you to:

a) Allow nonbinary people to donate by recording people's titles and genders independently of physical characteristics that might affect blood donation

b) allow gender-inclusive titles such as Mx (which are frequently used by people who are nonbinary)

Blood donations are an essential part of our healthcare system, allowing doctors to save lives. In a climate where the need for blood donations remains high, making a small change to remove bureaucratic barriers to donating would be in the best interests of everyone involved.
