Mr. Turners latest announcement...... Security Message Last month, I shared with you the safety and security philosophy, procedures, and protocols here at Newton North. I do believe that the most important thing we do to create a safe school is to develop strong relationships and connections with our students. When we have these relationships, we maintain open two-way communication and dialogue and we can more quickly identify issues or areas of concern. Of course, we also have in place the concrete safety and security measures, such as our full-time school resource officer (John Panica), cameras throughout the building and campus aides. We do regularly re-evaluate our procedures and protocols to ensure our campus is safe for students, faculty, and staff. Given recent national events, and conversations during lunch and X-block with students and staff, below are several actions we will be taking in the next few weeks: -ID Fob access points have been installed at several locations for staff entrance. This will allow staff to enter doors, such as the loading dock door and the door by the Theater set design space, with your white NPS ID card. -We will be locking all doors at North except the Main Entrance (Tiger Drive and Athletic Field sides) and Theater Entrance. -I will be asking all parents and visitors to enter through the Main Entrance doors. -We will be completing our annual lockdown drill in the next few weeks. Beginning in the fall, we will practice lockdown drills at the beginning of the school year. This is a great step in the right direction! We would still like to see “Trained Professionals” on campus protecting our kids & “Mental Illness” to be provided to ALL students in need!
