Charles Sturt University (CSU) is planning on changing its name to Sturt University (SU) in 2019.

Changing the name from CSU to SU erodes the identity, tradition and history of the previous generations who have attended, studied and worked at Charles Sturt University.

This petition is for students, alumni and members of the public to stand up and oppose the impending name change.

History and tradition must not be lost. We must keep the name and identity of our great university.

"It takes an endless amount of history to make a little tradition" - Henry James.

In 2011 the traditional crest of Charles Sturt University was changed. In 2019 the full rebranding is due to be completed.

Charles Sturt University was established on 1 July 1989 from the merger of several existing separately-administered Colleges of Advanced Education including the Mitchell College of Advanced Education in Bathurst, the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education in Albury-Wodonga and the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga Wagga.

It is named in honour of explorer Charles Sturt.
