AS CONCERNED CITIZENS WE ASK THAT ETHICAL JOURNALISTIC STANDARDS BE ADHERED TO IN REPORTING ON THE FEDERAL ELECTION IN AUSTRALIA DUE ON MAY 18, 2019 RATHER THAN MISREPRESENTATION, BIAS AND DISTORTION
 
The Leveson Inquiry 2012 in the UK reiterated the importance of the public interest with regard to the media:
 
The Press operating properly and in the pubic interest is one of the safeguards of our democracy ….. with these rights, however, come responsibilities to the public interest…..to honour the very principles proclaimed and articulated by the industry itself.
 
News Corp, under Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch have a 65% print coverage in Australia, including The Australian, NT News and The Sunday Territorian,  The Courier Mail in Brisbane, The Advertiser (South Australia), plus many local newspapers around the country.  It is seen as the kingmaker and the king-breaker in the country, with a predominantly conservative agenda.
 
Nine Entertainment Co. own: The Australian Financial Review, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and the Sun-Herald. 
 
Seven West Media acquired The West Australian from West Australian Newspaper holdings (WAN) in 2011.
 
The Guardian owner is Scott Trust Limited.
