Sharon Claydon: ‘ In the absence of a permanent end to hostilities, we continue to call for safe, unimpeded and sustained humanitarian access so that food, water, fuel, medicine and essential assistance can reach people in desperate need, and so civilians can get to safety. Demand is growing among the international community – west, east, north and south – for a political process, reinforcing the imperative of a durable peace. Australia is part of these international diplomatic efforts and will continue to work with countries that have influence in the region. I support all steps towards a sustainable ceasefire, which is essential in order to meet the ultimate goal of a long-term, enduring peace.’
