Thank you to everyone who has written to Newcastle City Council about illegal tree felling at Woolsington Woods.
Many of you will have now received a stock response from the council stating that ‘an accompanied site visit’ was carried out to assess the situation and that felled trees were ‘dead/diseased/dying’ and that works were undertaken in the interests of ‘public safety.’
It is still unclear who attended the site visit, but we know that no ecologist was present.
We have photographic evidence that the felled trees were healthy.
We have also been informed that logs from the felled trees are being sold as firewood.
We are still awaiting the council’s response to our latest correspondence regarding this matter, which is now being handled as a complaint.
We eagerly await the outcome of the Forestry Commission’s site visit, which is due imminently.
