Newcastle City Council has announced plans to close Brunswick Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).

The centre provides a vital service to residents in the north of Newcastle - as well as residents from North Tyneside and Northumberland.

According to Newcastle City Council, Brunswick HWRC gets around 30% of the 475,000 annual visitors to the city’s three tips.

The council's cabinet member for neighbourhoods and regulatory services has already admitted fly-tipping is a major problem in Newcastle.  

If Brunswick HWRC closes, fly-tipping will become an even bigger problem across the city and cost more to clean up. 

Fly-tipping is a blight on the local landscape and a source of pollution. It is a danger to public health and can harm wildlife.
