First off thanks to everyone, all 2500+ of you! This number gives the petition a far stronger democratic mandate in terms of NCC policy. Once the consultation closes on 21st August there will be a further chance to express views at a public meeting on the 24th August - see https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CpWqvDoXYAATOZE.jpg for details. The letter accompanying this petition is more than simply saying "no" to NCC proposals, it is asking for more time and more thought to be given to transport around the city and for open dialogue about how best to balance and prioritise different factors - local democracy in other words. Please think about what you want as well as what you don't want, use the NCC website to express this and please come to the march on the 21st and the public meeting on the 24th. We don't yet know what NCC will do with the 1000+ comments it has received, how it will collate them, whether it will publish them and what weight will be given to public views. All that has been said is that NCC will take the views into account when coming up with a proposal to put to formal consultation and that it is only at this stage that the Freemen will formally be consulted. The obvious danger is that we successfully oppose one misguided scheme to be presented with another slightly less bad option that we have even less time to respond to (the oldest trick in the book). We need transparency regarding NCC's agenda, the design principles and rationale used. Similarly NCC need to know what are the community's red lines in terms of environmental impact. Mike
