My name is Mike, I am one of several people helping to oversee the petition for Sarah. Thanks to all who have signed, please continue to raise awareness and encourage others to use the petition and the other ways to make views known to NCC. We are pushing 2000 signatures. If everyone also leaves a post on the NCC website that would be really powerful. I had a detailed email exchange with Mr Grant and I hope to summarise it into a pdf to post. One key point from Mr Grant: " - the petition will of course be considered, we have provided various means of contacting the council to express views, we won't be taking into account views expressed outside of that such as comments on facebook / streetlife or other such social media." Added to this I had noted that at engagement events, no record of attendees is being kept and NCC staff were not recording questions or offering to take details to allow answers to technical questions to be sought on behalf of residents. Mr Grant was also clear that there will be no extension to the current engagement process. Once this is closed, NCC will draw up a final proposal to go to formal consultation. By then it will be too late to influence the plans. Therefore if you feel strongly enough about this issue to sign the petition please also go to www.newcastle.gov.uk/roads and make a comment - note that there is a slider bar at the top of the comment that can be moved to positive or negative. If you miss this out it will be logged as a neutral comment. Various local councillors are involved I have corresponded with Dan Perry (dan.perry@newcastlelabour.org.uk) and Stella Postlethwaite (stella.postlethwaite@gmail.com) both Jesmond labour and Greg Stone (cllrgregstone@yahoo.com) Lib dem. All were surprised at the details of the scheme and the lateness of the briefing given to councillors by NCC. They are keen to hear the views of residents.
