I cannot describe how touched I am by the support that I have received from the individuals who have signed my petition. Thank you! Thank you for expressing your interest, for the messages of support, and most importantly for taking the time out of your day to sign this petition. It shows the passion that those who know the city have for this potential change, a change which would greatly empower those with physical disabilities; allowing them to independently explore the city, to access all areas, to be involved in community life.
I am willing to promote this petition independently, as taking a political stance is the only way that change will be made, and even if Newcastle City Council refuse to acknowledge the petition, it has still made a valuable statement that can be used in the future. I will not give up or stand down, as it affects me every single day. I'm reminded of the difficulties whenever I travel to school, use transportation in the city, or even try and cross a road safely. Of course I'm not the only one...
As of yet, Laura Pidcock has not responded to the petition, as petitions have to reach 100 signatures before they can be classed as valid.
With that said, I shall keep you updated and posted if there are any developments. Once again, thank you so much. Not just from me, but on behalf of the disabled community that access Newcastle, and the community in general. It shows the solidarity and support that decades ago was much lesser and less effective. But times have changed, and the city needs to also.
