Save Newcastle WildlifeNewcastle upon Tyne, ENG, United Kingdom
Dec 3, 2016
We have spoken with Natural England’s senior adviser on Local Nature Reserves and expressed concerns about plans to hem in Havannah with high-density residential developments. After learning of the significance of the site in terms of providing habitat for the last known breeding population of red squirrels in Newcastle, the adviser decided it would be useful to consult a species specialist. Notwithstanding, there is no legal protection for LNRs and decisions relating to development in or around them rest with local authorities. Natural England has no power to stop a local authority making any particular decisions on these sites. Please continue to spread the word about this petition. We need as many signatures as we can in order to tell Newcastle City Council not to hem in Havannah.
