Build a Parkour park in Newcastle Upon Tyne

We would like YOU and Newcastle City Council to consider building a Parkour park in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

There are no Parkour parks in the whole of the North East of England and with the popularity of the sport increasing and the recent recognition of Parkour as an official sport in the UK, there is now a high demand for one!

Parkour parks are appearing all around the UK and are incredibly popular for practitioners and newcomers to the sport.

What is Parkour?

Parkour is a sport and physical discipline comprised of a set of adaptive techniques which are used to overcome obstacles. It’s practice involves moving freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, vaulting, and climbing. In practice it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, which include strength and fitness, balance, spatial awareness, agility, coordination, precision, control and creative vision.

The aims of this project are to:

  • Build a place for the Parkour community and young practitioners to safely meet, train together, and find new opportunities.
  • Provide a new and exciting facility that will encourage people of all ages to discover. explore, and develop themselves through movement.
  • Offer facility for other uses, such as calisthenics, outdoor fitness classes, and bootcamps.

We would like to make this site the outdoor home of parkour in the North East; combining some outstanding existing features from other parks here in the UK, and those in Denmark, where the sport is very popular. We would like to create something truly special that can be enjoyed by many different people within the city and further afield.
