Yes! Build a biking & walking path linking Manawatu-Tararua

We're on the cusp of a major opportunity in a marvellous place - building a safe, separated biking and walking path in conjunction with the new Manawatu-Tararua highway, linking Ashhurst and Woodville.

The Te Apiti windfarm and Manawatu River Gorge area has huge untapped potential, and the path is essential to unlocking it. The path will create real economic, health, tourism, transport and recreation benefits.

The path will boost our economy by expanding recreation and leisure opportunities that are vital for attracting and retaining leading businesses and workforce talent. It will also create opportunity for adventure accommodation and activity-based businesses.

This magnetic place with its dramatic landscape and stunning scenery is a drawcard for locals and visitors, who love the Gorge views, hill country farm scenery, majestic wind turbines, and link to nature.

More than 70,000 people use the Gorge Walk already, 150,000 people live on its doorstep, we’re within a two-hour drive of a million people, and five million people visit New Zealand every year.

The path will link into local biking and walking networks, connecting to Te Araroa and The NZ Cycle Trail which are the backbone of adventure tourism and active recreation in New Zealand.

Despite all these benefits, the NZ Transport Agency has not yet committed to building it with the new highway – so we’re petitioning - and we need your support.
