Declare a National Climate Emergency

Declare a National Climate Emergency
The issue
Climate Change is an ongoing issue in our world and is affecting the way we live. From temperatures rising due to our carbon foot print, to animals losing their homes as a result of ice caps melting or deforestation, the devastating effects are all around us.
Why is this important? The area of land where we live and rely on to survive is slowly reducing due to the effects of Climate Change. Temperatures are rising as well as sea levels, ice caps are melting, weather is becoming unpredictable, and ocean life is dying. Because Climate Change is impacting New Zealand in the following ways: higher temperatures, flooding, sea-level rising, transport, agriculture, biodiversity, business and finance. We need to take immediate action to prevent any further impacts.
The New Zealand government has yet to declare a National Climate emergency. In declaring a climate emergency, the government admits that global warming exists and the measures they have done up-to this point are not good enough to change the underlying issue of Climate Change.
1,486 governments have declared a Climate emergency in countries such United Kingdom, Spain, Canada among many others such as the majority of Eastern Europe. By declaring a National Climate emergency these countries are admitting that Climate Change is an issue and are actively finding solutions to stop the inevitable destruction of the world we inhabit.
