I started this petition in hopes to open the eyes of my peers, this community(the 6th borough) and most importantly The City Council. Seeing as though they are the ones that can make it happen for us. For years we Far Rockaway residents have been subject to having ourselves, loved ones fight for their lives in the process of a roughly 14.5 mile ride to help.. The only, closest help there is Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. In the 30-50 minute time span people lose their lives and their loved ones. All I ask is why don’t we have a trauma unit here in St. Johnson Hospital? Even better question, why was the trauma unit taken from Peninsula Hospital in the hype of all the traumatic injuries such as stabbing, car accidents and most popular GUN SHOT WOUNDS?! The City Council meets once a month and they are the only ones who has the oversight, authority to green light the budget to open a trauma unit for us. Will they do it ? I don’t know but I do know if we all stick together and sign this petition for the sake of living another day, having the proper tools to fight a fair fight for our lives it’s a start. Let’s open the eyes of the City Council! Let us all stick together for once. Trauma Unit for FarRockaway. God Bless.
