Laura grew up in Far Rockaway, married and domiciled in the same area all of her life. Educated at the local schools, graduated from Far Rockaway High School, college in Queens, Hofstra (Hempstead) and New School (Manhattan), working for many years as a radio engineer for WOR Radio.

Creativity was Laura's passion. Envisioning things. Setting things into perspective through "framing" or capturing the moment, whether in a photograph or a painting.  Laura loved to paint.

Laura was also a published author. "The Final Solution Is Life"
by Laura Deckelman and Rebbetzin Chana Rubin is a biography like few others. It is the story of a distinguished rabbinic and chassidic family of Hungary, a family that exemplified scholarship, piety, generosity and aristocracy of merit. The author, the renowned Muzsayer Rebbetzin, was a niece of the revered Satmar Rav and her husband was the scion of a great rabbinic family in his own right.

"Laura's season" of ferry rides and pics of the beach crowd would be where you would find Laura. "Perspectives of perspectives"  was a way of looking at Laura looking at the subject.  She loved capturing the seasons of, and at the beach since surfers and seals are popular during the cold months.  Now it's time for surfing school on Beach 69th and the wonderful youth that take lessons there.  The girls are pretty amazing surfers. Maybe Laura wanted to try surfing?  Many of Laura's pics regarding the beach and surf have been placed in their own facebook page.  Please give attribution to Laura Deckelman if you so choose to use them.  https://www.facebook.com/RockawayBeachActionPhotos/

Thank you for supporting this petition.  I'm still short of the goal I wanted to reach at this point.  I would appreciate it if everyone would take this moment to share this update via email and also on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.  We'd love to have overwhelming support for this petition to strengthen our chances for success with our ultimate goal: An a plaque or appropriate signage to commemorate the memory of Laura Deckelman and her work in the Rockaway community.  So please share this petition widely.

Thank you,

Elisa
