"New York surprises with broad new sealing law."

Unbelievable news everyone! New York has finally passed a comprehensive sealing law. The new law is CPL 160.59. Under the new law, which takes effect in October, there is a 10-year waiting period and you will be able to apply to seal up to 2 convictions but only one can be a felony. DWIs are also eligible. Violent felonies and sex offenses are not sealable. This is awesome news. This was tucked away deep in the budget and it has passed both the Senate and the Assembly and signed by the Governor. THIS REALLY HAPPENED!
