Today I had the opportunity to meet with our supportive local State MPs, Vicki Ward MP - Member for Eltham and Colin Brooks MP - Member for Bundoora, united in our concern of the dangerous conditions and need for a safe pedestrian crossing on Diamond Creek Road.
They share with us deep sadness of the recent pedestrian accident involving a local student and the need for continued advocacy to install a safe crossing. The Principal of Montmorency Secondary College, Fran Ibbott, was also able to share with them the impact the accident has had on the student, her family & friends and our community as well as the concern for safety of children commuting to school on bus routes and crossing this road daily.
The road adjoins the MPs electorates, and as local members of parliament, they are going to take forward our concerns and petition to the Minister for Transport and Minister for Roads & Road Safety.
I’ll be able to present this petition formally in coming weeks to Vicki & Colin, so please share it widely and seek your neighbour’s and fellow driver’s signatures and their powerful comments of near misses and pedestrian risks!
Thanks!
