Commoner, Holly, had this to say yesterday: "Today we had the dreaded call to say one of our lovely forest mares was involved in a hit and run some time between 7:00pm and 8:25pm on sunday 19th on bolderwood road by the motorway bridge. There hasn’t been any information put forward to who was driving a blue vehicle at this time as there was blue car parts left at the scene. Any information would be great and if you could contact the verderers office that would be greatly appreciated. Absolutely gutted as this was my first Forest run pony and believe she was in foal I’m not posting any pictures of the accident as it is to graphic and horrifying to look at."

Rachel Russell reported that one of her mares had been hit and injured at Piper's Waite just off the B3078 - she is not sure yet whether the pony will survive.

Today there was a grey pony, wearing a reflective collar, dead by the roadside on the B3078.

Last week there were three pony deaths and the week before there were three ponies injured.

Yet there is no motivation and no funds to put anything permanent in on the most dangerous roads to reduce the risk of ponies being hit by drivers.

Operation Mountie caught 17 drivers speeding in the rain on the road from Lyndhurst to Beaulieu (Matley Wood) yesterday - one of which was a second time offender. Tickets are only issued if the driver is exceeding 50 mph (the limit is 40), those in between are given a stern warning.
