Note: this is the message ABLENH sent out to supporters: "DISABILITY RIGHTS ACTION ALERT: 5 HELPERS NEEDED THURSDAY 8:00-8:35am in Concord. ABLE NH has requested help in keeping the peace tomorrow in preparation for their workshop on Supported Typing/Facilitation at New England College, Concord campus where the training taking place. "Lisa Keller, SLP, is leading the training listed in the email link below “Introduction to Supported Typing/Facilitation.” Many believe that access to Facilitated Communication (FC) is a protected legal right under the 1st amendment. However, there are a few extreme people in opposition to FC. In the last week, a particular vocal opponent is stirring up discord for this community AGAIN. FC is the only means of communication for some individuals and families who believe this gives their loved one a voice are literally feeling terrorized by the idea of FC being “banned.” Lisa Keller is leading this workshop tomorrow morning and she thinks there is a possibility there may be a couple of protestors outside New England College, Concord campus where the training is happening. Can we assemble at 8:00am at the New England, College Concord campus for coffee just in case? If no one is there, we can catch up on each other.
