The FC workshop is not canceled.
There is more YOU can do!
call New England College and demand it be canceled 603-428-2222 or email president@nec.edu If you are an alum or potential donor make it clear your support is withdrawn. Message then on twitter at @NewEngCollege use the Hashtag #realAACforALL
File a complaint against Lisa Keller, the SLP running the workshop. You can do so at ASHA and at the Massachusetts Board https://elicensing.state.ma.us/CitizenAccess/_SearchaLicense.htm Lisa Keller is license 9505
Call ABLE NH and clearly state your opinions. Don't argue. You aren't going to make an impact with this one, it is about the volume of calls. Also take their survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VKL3GCW You can also message them on Twitter @ablenh1 use the #realAACforALL
Note: Lurie Center has assured me they are no longer involved in this workshop in anyway.
Note: this is the message ABLENH sent out to supporters:
"DISABILITY RIGHTS ACTION ALERT: 5 HELPERS NEEDED THURSDAY 8:00-8:35am in Concord.
ABLE NH has requested help in keeping the peace tomorrow in preparation for their workshop on Supported Typing/Facilitation at New England College, Concord campus where the training taking place.
"Lisa Keller, SLP, is leading the training listed in the email link below “Introduction to Supported Typing/Facilitation.” Many believe that access to Facilitated Communication (FC) is a protected legal right under the 1st amendment. However, there are a few extreme people in opposition to FC. In the last week, a particular vocal opponent is stirring up discord for this community AGAIN. FC is the only means of communication for some individuals and families who believe this gives their loved one a voice are literally feeling terrorized by the idea of FC being “banned.”
Lisa Keller is leading this workshop tomorrow morning and she thinks there is a possibility there may be a couple of protestors outside New England College, Concord campus where the training is happening. Can we assemble at 8:00am at the New England, College Concord campus for coffee just in case? If no one is there, we can catch up on each other.
Lisa Beaudoin
ABLE NH
603-878-0459"
Of course, FC is the opposite of disability rights! Also we aren't calling for it to be banned. We are calling for no NEW FC users. We aren't out their collecting letterboards. We just want to protect the next generation and give them real access to authentic communication!
Thank you all for your support. #RealAACforALL
