BREAKING: Just days after ditching its dirty ice cream business in the wake of Compassion Over Killing’s heartbreaking dairy investigation, Nestlé is churning out vegan Nesquik! This victory was made possible by the tens of thousands of you who have urged it to offer dairy-free options. But our work isn’t over: Keep fueling our life-saving work for cows suffering for Nestlé and other dairy giants by donating TODAY!
Last week, we announced that Nestlé had finally offloaded its cruel US ice cream business after months of campaigning by COK in the wake of extreme cruelty exposed in the food giant’s supply chain, including hot irons being burned into calves’ flesh to permanently destroy their horns and growth tissue in a cruel process known as “dehorning” or “disbudding.”
That massive step was just the latest in a series of moo-ves away from cruel dairy by the beleaguered company. After hearing from more than 20,000 of you to churn out more vegan options, it recently unveiled plans for a vegan bacon, cheese, and burger trio to be sold to restaurant and foodservice customers next year--a landmark step at a time when many fast food chains are still pairing plant-based burgers with animal-derived cheese or mayo.
Now, Nestlé is responding to the souring demand for cow’s milk yet again by announcing a vegan version of Nesquik made from oat milk and pea protein. Nutritional info shows that the soon-to-be released beverage is packed with 6 grams of protein.
This huge progress comes after an intense COK campaign, powered by your support. This year, we delivered your signatures straight to the company’s doorstep alongside our giant inflatable cow and encircled its Arlington, VA, headquarters with a nightmarish ice cream truck depicting the egregious abuse we documented. Thousands of people received our campaign postcards at Nestlé-sponsored events nationwide, and dozens tried our free samples of delicious vegan ice cream. We even flooded Nesquik spokesperson DK Metcalf with tweets urging him to be a champ for cows by encouraging the company to roll out a vegan drink.
Now, our pleas are being answered: After ditching its US dairy-based ice cream brands, Nestlé is hearing the compassionate demand with this latest product rollout!
But while Nestlé may be scooping out a huge chunk of cruelty from its supply chain, which includes over 1 million cows worldwide, our work is far from done. Cows in the dairy industry continue to suffer painful mutilations and have their babies torn from them just after birth, and are finally sent to slaughter after a grueling life being used as nothing more than milk machines.
Keep powering our progress for cows TODAY: Make a quick, tax-deductible donation to COK’s life-saving work! And hurry: Donate by December 31, and your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, meaning it’s stretched twice as far for animals!
Thank you for being part of the Compassion family and helping us make a kinder world for all animals.
