Neighborhood Opposition to a Planned Cannabis Retailer at 86 Kirkland Street

Neighborhood Opposition to a Planned Cannabis Retailer at 86 Kirkland Street

The Issue

The proposed marijuana retail shop at 86 Kirkland Street, at the end of Myrtle Ave threatens to change the fundamental character of our residential neighborhood. We the residents, strongly oppose this proposal by Binoj Pradhan (PH Organics LLC) on the grounds that it will increase traffic, second hand smoke, noise, and crime due to the expected cash transactions in our quiet neighborhood. Our neighborhood is now populated by many families with children, and is not a heavy commercial use area. It is also within two blocks of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, the Ellis School and within 300 feet of Tree House Academy. The second hand smoke, as well the increase in traffic that will result from PH Organics would be detrimental to our community that includes many young children. There is already a high volume of commuter traffic on the corner of Beacon and Kirkland Streets. The opening of this shop in the proposed location would be extremely problematic for the traffic situation alone. We collectively agree that the potential harm to our neighborhood from the opening of this business is much greater than any potential benefit. We strongly urge the Planning Board to deny Binoj Pardhan a marijuana retailer license to open PH Organics at 86 Kirkland Street because it will be extremely harmful to our neighborhood and change its fundamental residential character.
