Reduce the CT legal drinking age to 18

The Issue

The legal age of maturity in the United States of America, upon which a citizen may run for public office, be tried as an adult, join the military, and sign a binding contract is and always has been 18 years old. The State of Connecticut’s drinking age of 21 years old, raised from 18 in 1985, is entirely arbitrary and has had absolutely no measurable effect on underage drinking or drunk driving. We, the people of the State of Connecticut, call upon our democratically elected state senators to eliminate this absurd and restrictive practice and reinstall a state drinking age which is in accordance with undeniable common sense.
