On October 24, 2025, an intentionally set fire devastated our community on Riptide Square in Sterling, Virginia. The fire damaged multiple townhomes, displaced families, and tragically resulted in the loss of a life.

Nearly eleven months later, residents are still living beside the burned and deteriorating property. Families and children pass this site every day. Neighbors remain concerned about unsafe structural conditions, debris, pests and wildlife, environmental exposure, and the continuing emotional impact of living next to the scene of a fatal crime.

The criminal justice system has now held the person responsible accountable. Yet the physical scene remains in our neighborhood.

Loudoun County leaders approved demolition of the property in July 2026, but residents still have not been given a clear and reliable date for demolition and complete cleanup.

We respectfully call on Loudoun County to:

Publish a firm, written schedule for demolition and complete cleanup of the affected property.
Secure and inspect the site immediately while demolition is pending.
Identify the department and official responsible for overseeing completion.
Provide residents with regular written progress updates, including explanations for any further delays.
Complete the demolition, debris removal, pest mitigation, and cleanup as quickly as legally and safely possible.
Our community has already endured the fire, displacement, grief, uncertainty, and months of delay. We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for safety, accountability, transparency, and the restoration of our neighborhood.

Riptide Square residents deserve a firm date—and action.
