The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has called for the creation of a free online portal granting second-hand car buyers access to essential vehicle history details, including mileage, write-off status, and past accidents.

The move aims to limit the number of dangerous or clocked cars on Irish roads and bring Ireland in line with other EU countries where such information is publicly available.

Currently, much of this data is inaccessible or available only for a fee.
