Dear everyone who has signed this petition, THANK YOU. ** We'd be grateful if you would go on sharing it with friends as we (still) want as many signatures as we can**... we've done well in just a few hours but we can get more to show KTCC that they should not be treating us like this... this is a matter of politeness to an organisation that had done a lot of preparation as well as a free speech issue. That said, the Sunday evening event will go on even if we move it, and some friends have suggested somewhere good (also in Camden); we will confirm tomorrow where the event will be. After the petition had been got going this afternoon, we were invited to a meeting with 2 KTCC trustees and the co-ordinator. It was a disappointing meeting, as we thought it would be a discussion, but they'd already made up their minds and weren't prepared to listen. They seem to be saying that Camden Council told then to cancel the event (but Camden say they didn't...) Lots of things didn't add up, but at bottom what we seem to have is Smear and Fear ... where somebody anonymous smeared Jenny Tonge to the Council, the Council passed it to the community centre and they shut down the whole event because they are afraid of the anonymous somebody... It is difficult for us, as we had booked their hall for the event ages ago and have done lots of preparation, so we're going ahead on Sunday for sure. But if the meeting with KTCC management did one thing, it was to make us feel it would be actively good to hold the event somewhere other than that centre. So we'll tell you tomorrow where it is going to be! It is also very important that we stand up for Free Speech on Palestine and we would like to do some work on that and ask your help. As part of this we are considering arranging a demo that starts or ends at KTCC: we'll arrange this and tell you. No need to do it in the next 2 days though as we no longer want to persuade them to give us that hall, so the date will follow. The picture is a recent CADFA event at KTCC.. we've had a lot of events there... but think we'll be moving to other places in future.
