Make marketing less lenient about what kids watch
Make marketing less lenient about what kids watch
The Issue
The movie, while okay for kids slightly younger than 13, must be suitable for a PG-13 rating or at least marketed to slightly younger children. It is too mature for kids to understand and there are some uncomfortable themes that may scary very little ones and talks about mountains of bones and trolls eating people to make their toes into pretty necklaces. It has even been assumed that the trolls ate The Trubsaw Baby. A young child almost gets tortured in fire, a man has an allergy to cheese which may cause kids to be traumatized.
The film is even darker than Laika's two other films, "Coraline" and "Paranorman" and am very shocked that no parent has been responsible for what their kid watches. I suggest you parents research to see if it's appropriate for kids younger than 11. If they are 8 and are mature enough to understand, you may give it a go. Because "The Boxtrolls" is a mature movie for a mature audience.
The thing about genocide and extermination of creatures is what I'm worried about. And dont' disagree with me, because it's NOT a children's movie! Movies like that that came out a long time ago, even the live-action kind were marketed to older children.
