Petition updateProtect Rock Climbing at Dairy Farm!Re-scheduling of Meeting with NParks (15 or 17 Aug 2022)
Rock Climbers Collective
Aug 5, 2022

Dear Singapore rock climbers,

As some of you might be aware, a meeting was supposed to have taken place on 4 August 2022 at which Nparks would host a sharing session by their geological consultants. Unfortunately, this meeting did not take place.

At around 11:00am on the day of the meeting, 8 hours prior to its start time, we were notified that the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, who was slated to also be in attendance, had tested positive for COVID-19, and that Nparks was postponing the meeting as a result. Many of us having had COVID-19 ourselves, we certainly empathise with the Commissioner, and wish him a speedy recovery.

Nevertheless, we urged Nparks not to postpone the meeting given (i) the entirely inadequate notice which might result in some climbers not getting the update before the originally scheduled meeting time; (ii) that Nparks would be represented by other senior officials, including one of their Group Directors; and (iii) that the Commissioner’s absence would not detract from the meeting’s stated purpose of allowing Singapore’s climbers to hear from the geological consultants.

To our disappointment, Npaks insisted on the postponement, and asked us to inform the attendees. We sincerely apologise to any climbers who might have turned up to the meeting venue - we were similarly taken off-guard by Nparks’ last-minute decision and were unable to reach some of you despite our best efforts.

Nparks has now rescheduled the meeting for the following 2 dates, and those interested in attending can register for either session at the link below provided by Nparks:

Date: 15 Aug (Monday) or 17 Aug (Wednesday)
Time: 7pm on both dates
Location: HortPark, Multi-purpose Hall
33 Hyderabad Road
Singapore 119578
Registration: https://form.gov.sg/62ec96dc66772d0016384810

Nparks has asked that registrations be made by 5:00pm on 12 August 2022.

Rest assured that RCC remains committed to advocating for climbers’ access to Dairy Farm Quarry and we will continue to work with the Singapore climbing community in furtherance of this aim.
