On Tuesday 20 January 2026, a public Call for Evidence will launch for the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, led by Baroness Amos.

This investigation formally covers England, but crucially Baroness Amos has been clear that she will be looking at evidence, learning and experiences from the other nations and internationally as part of her work.  That matters - and it reflects years of campaigning to ensure that maternity safety is not examined in isolation or silos.

The Call for Evidence is an online survey open for 8 weeks, closing on 17 March 2026, and is designed to hear directly from:

women and people who have been pregnant, and
partners, families and others who supported them through pregnancy and birth.

It covers the full maternity and neonatal pathway, allows people to choose which sections they respond to, and includes both closed and open questions.

It has been shaped with input from bereaved and harmed families, expert advisors and specialist charities, and will be available in alternative languages and accessible formats.

I want to be clear about something.

Like other families, I spent a significant amount of time reviewing the draft surveys and providing detailed feedback.  And it is a weighty piece of work – and it may feel overwhelming when you access it to offer your feedback.  But it has to be this way.

Capturing the reality of maternity and neonatal care, particularly where harm has occurred, cannot be reduced to soundbites and boxes to check.

The fact that this investigation exists at all is not accidental.

Getting the review across the line at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust changed the landscape.  Because of that work - and sustained pressure since - families who were previously ignored or sidelined are now being formally listened to.

Through years of sustained campaigning alongside others, many more families now have a route to be heard nationally.

As soon as the Call for Evidence link is live, I will publish it here and across my channels, repeatedly and relentlessly.  This is critical.  Families’ voices must shape what comes next.

Please be ready to share it widely.  Please be ready to share your experiences.  This is how change WILL happen.
