After Thursday's farcical last day in Parliament for 2019 I was SO angry..
Today I learned from Newscorp Reporter Malcolm Farr on the ABC's Insiders - that INSTEAD of introducing TWO BIPARTISAN pieces of legislation - RECOMMENDATIONS from the Royal Commission into Financial Services - that are IMPORTANT to US the ordinary people of Australia into the House of Representatives in this LAST week of Parliament (legislation that COULD have been PASSED by the Senate QUICKLY and WITHOUT drama or fuss):
1) INCREASING ASIC's powers to DISCIPLINE Directors of Banks & financial organisations who commit or oversee wrong-doing - VERY necessary when we have one of our major BANKS being investigated!
2) PROTECT US from unscrupulous Funeral Insurance Brokers - how many older people may get caught up in this over the next 2 months?
The PM however CHOSE to RE-INTRODUCE in this last week, the ironically named 'Ensuring Integrity' Bill (considering the introduction of this Bill to Parliament involved the UNPRECEDENTED gagging of debate and insisting that the Bill be voted on without any member having time to READ the details!) which demonstrated neither ETHICS OR INTEGRITY - despite KNOWING it couldn't be re-introduced into the Senate again UNTIL next year..
And to also rush in the REPEAL of the MEDEVAC legislation that is by NO means a 'national security issue' and once again indicates our nation is both cruel and hypocritical..
How can we lecture other nations about THEIR breaches of Human Rights Law when Human Rights in Australia only extends to SOME people?
We show the most base cruelty to a few hundred people who came seeking our help by boat - when every week - THOUSANDS of people come in from overseas on working or visitor visas and then either 'disappear' or request asylum once they are here - before their visas expire - with NO medical aid or Human Rights EVER denied
Our Govt certainly DOESN'T draw attention to THAT - sloppiness on THEIR watch and MANY, MANY thousands of people EVERY year QUIETLY 'jumping the queue'!
And they are usually 'unworthy' (well if you're a 'boat person' you are!) 'economic' refugees - because if you are genuinely in fear of your life - the LAST thing you would do is go to the authorities whom you FEAR and who may BRUTALISE you to apply for a Visa!
Did the 911 terrorists ARRIVE by BOAT? Yet our Govt INSISTS that ONLY 'Boat people' are a THREAT to our 'National Security' - and apparently we BELIEVE them!
Surely OUR Politicians are ELECTED to care about US?
How is ignoring BIPARTISAN Legislation that can BENEFIT ALL of us - putting the PEOPLE'S needs first?
Then we learned that the PM used our Air Force Plane to FLY to Sydney - less than 3 hours DRIVE from Canberra - to have DRINKS with Newscorp's Lachlan Murdoch!
The SAME PM who endorses brutal legislation that insists that those unable to find a job on Newstart have to travel OVER an hour and PAY their own way to job interviews they have NO hope of getting!
The 'Age of Entitlement' is OVER - say our Politicians BUT it appears NOT for them - who THINK they are way MORE important than those who elect them..
If we can get MANY THOUSANDS MORE to sign this Petition - THEN let's form an INTEGRITY CONVOY to DELIVER it to the Senate & MP Recipients in Canberra when Parliament OPENS in February!
That MIGHT make them think!
