Petition updateProtect our railway heritage from National Highways' wrecking ballConsultation on the Government's third Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy

The Government is currently consulting on the development of its third Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy, known as CWIS3, and is specifically seeking views on a number of draft objectives. You can check them out via this link…

Our friends at Transport Action Network (TAN) have carefully reviewed the proposals and concluded that the “new strategy fails to learn from the past, isn’t integrated with other government plans or priorities, and is underfunded. In fact its ambition is so vague, it’s a step backwards from the previous Conservative government!”

We’d like to encourage our supporters to respond to the consultation, taking advantage of the ground work undertaken by TAN. This link takes you to a page on the Action Network via which you can submit a generic response in less than a minute…

If you want to provide your own comments - and we would encourage as many people as possible to do so - that will take a little longer. But this is an important issue and the consultation presents a rare opportunity to make your voice heard and influence the direction of travel.

You will notice that TAN has recommended that management of the Historical Railways Estate is removed from National Highways and placed with an organisation that recognises legacy railway structures as assets for the expansion of the country’s active travel network. We fully endorse this position and hope you will too.

Responses have to be submitted by 15 December so there isn’t a lot of time.

We greatly appreciate your continued support.
