Within a week of publication, more than 300 people had submitted objections to National Highways’ (NH) planning application to retain the infill under Great Musgrave bridge in Cumbria. This is a great start.
Although the structure was in fine condition - as demonstrated by the company’s own inspection reports - NH told Eden District Council that infilling was needed to prevent its failure and collapse! When the Council tried to stop them, National Highways invoked powers which were only applicable in emergency situations presenting a threat of death or injury!
If they get away with such a disreputable act here, they will see it as a green light to drive through more schemes impacting destructively on future sustainable transport projects, our outstanding railway heritage, glorious landscapes and fragile ecosystems.
Please make your voice heard and OBJECT to the planning application. It only takes a couple of minutes and you can do so via the Council’s website. Here’s the link…
Click on the blue ‘Comment’ button, select “Object” as the “Type of comment”, type or paste in your objection and enter your contact details.
If you need some guidance as to what to say, there’s a page of useful national and local policy references on our website…
