Hello all! Some of you may be aware Stevens announced about one month ago the creation of a committee to consider the naming of the Gianforte building. The job of the committee is gather the facts surrounding Gianforte's character, and consider them in conjunction with a variety of other factors including Stevens's values, mission statement, donor history, etc. After this phase, the committee will provide the Board of Trustees with advice and guidelines, and then the Board of Trustees will ultimately make the final decision.
A week or two ago the Committee announced they would begin taking input and comments from the Stevens community where they wanted to hear their thoughts on the Gianforte matter.
Some fellow alumni and some students (myself included) created the following website:
http://www.iwillnotsitby.com/
which contains a slew of information concerning Gianforte, and how one can submit feedback to the committee.
This is incredibly important! Please everyone submit feedback to the committee (this is very important) BY AUGUST 18TH. The website is incredibly misleading (as it says September 8th the website closes and makes no mention of the August 18th deadline). It's very important everyone make their voices heard now.
Additionally, please tell as many people as you can you to submit their comment to the committee, and share the website around on social media, word of mouth, etc. We need to get as many voices heard as possible! We need to let the committee know it would be unacceptable to name the building after Gianforte.
In summary, the deadline to submit comments is August 18th. It is very important you get your comments in by then. Spread the word and urge others to comment.
Sincerely,
Joseph Risi
P.S. If anyone has access to any kind of alumni e-mail list (that they feel comfortable sharing and are able to share!) it would be most appreciated. I can be best reached at jrisi256@gmail.com
