I'm deeply grateful for the support I have received for this petition and I want to thank you all for it.
To make sure this effort comes to fruition, I'm keeping tabs on the news to see the developments and I found that in December 2019 and again in June 2020, two petitions have been filed against the Trans Act 2019 in Supreme Court of India citing the rights it violates. Here's a link with details on this case. The first one was by Swati Bidhan Baruah, the first Transgender judge from the state of Assam and the second was by prominent Indian Trans activists like Grace Banu. The court issued a notice to the Central government both times but there's no update on a response from the government. The case remains pending and so far the Court hasn't made anymore decisions in this regard.
Let us continue to exert pressure on the government to halt the implementation, address these petitions and take into consideration the suggestions of the trans community which this Act deeply affects.
In case you need more information on how the Trans Act 2019 is problematic, here's a video explaining the issues
Keep sharing this petition till we reach our goal! Trans Rights are human rights and must be protected.
Much love and gratitude.
