Dear friends of the forest preserves,

Just wanted to update you on the new threat being proposed for the former Nokia property on Warrenville/Naperville Roads that will affect both Herrick Lake and Danada Forest Preserves. 

The proposal calls for the construction of two 211,000-square-foot data centers on the Nokia property in Naperville. While presented as economic development, this project poses serious, permanent risks to our community, environment, and quality of life. These impacts cannot be fully mitigated and will be irreversible once built.

At the very minimum, this data center will most likely require dozens of onsite locomotive-size diesel generators (for backup power) that will likely be routinely tested for several hours on a weekly basis. The resulting noise and air pollution will be severe. Also, there likely will be immense underground storage tanks to store diesel fuel.

This is an irresponsible use of this property, given its unique location to two forest preserves.
