Being an ecologist, I know the importance of protecting our environment. Not only so we can enjoy it, but also to ensure we are safe and to attempt to buffer stress it is facing. We all need a safe and clean, self-sufficient environment. This isn't just for hikers, surfers and environmentalists. This is for anyone who wants to be able to walk outside and breathe clean air. 

The image on this petition was taken in LA before the clean air act passed in 1970, showing the impact of unregulated industry to air quality. Congressman Matt Gaetz has filed a bill to abolish the EPA. 

The Environmental Protection Agency not only helps in protecting our natural environment, it helps ensure we have clean air to breathe and water to drink. It creates the legislation that keeps businesses environmentally and socially responsible. The EPA's ~15,000 staff (mainly scientists and engineers) writes legislation to combat potential and current problems for our air, land, water, endangered species, hazardous waste among other issues. The EPA also works around the planet assisting other countries with their environmental issues. Without a federal agency that protects these resources, our environment could become extremely toxic and very unsafe. 

Abolishing the EPA will put all America's people, from children to elderly at risk from many health implications and will dissolve protections for endangered species around the nation.
