Fort Lee Mayor Mark J. Sokolich: Tell your Sister City, Namyangju, that you are opposed to the torture and consumption of dogs and cats.
Namyangju became a Sister City with Fort Lee, New Jersey in 2020.
Namyangju is one of the largest dog meat suppliers and consumption cities in South Korea. In Namyangju, there are countless dog meat shops, farms, slaughterhouses, markets, and restaurants where the dogs, who are tortured their entire lives, end up being slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging, or beating; and then thrown into boiling water – sometimes while they are still alive. In many places, dogs are being killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry and are subject to the same cruelty.
We cannot stand by while Namyangju continues to deceive us and inflict unimaginable cruelty on animals who consider humans guardians and companions. So we are now asking Fort Lee Mayor Mark J. Sokolich and the Fort Lee Council members to urge Namyangju to stop the dog and cat meat industry in their county – an illegal, brutal, and diabolical industry.
