For Veterans Day, let’s honor the remarkable story of Henry Breault—a hero who exemplifies the courage and dedication of our armed forces. Henry Breault, a Torpedoman in the U.S. Navy and a submarine sailor, became the first submariner to be awarded the Medal of Honor, an accolade that underscores his bravery and selflessness.

On October 28 1923, while serving aboard the USS O-5, Breault found himself in a dire situation. The O-5 collided with a freighter in the Panama Canal and began to sink rapidly. Breault had the chance to escape but instead chose to go below deck to rescue a trapped crewmate. As the boat went down, he was sealed in with his shipmate. Against all odds, both men survived 31 hours under challenging conditions before rescuers were able to reach them.

Breault’s actions embodied the selfless service and camaraderie that defines the spirit of our armed forces, and his legacy serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by service members every day. This Veterans Day, let’s remember and honor heroes like Henry Breault, who risk everything to protect their comrades and country.

On this Veteran's Day please share the petition to your friends and family!
