It has been one month and the petition has grown to nearly 1100 supporters. Many of the supporters have shared on Facebook, written to their local, state, and federal legislators, and became promoters on change!
When a submarine is named in Breault's honor, it will be directly representative of our efforts to spread the idea as far and wide as possible.
One of the primary things that becomes a potential issue is naming the boat after Breault, who will be the community that will support the submarine throughout its life?
Breault has significant ties to several states he lived in. He was born in Putnam, CT, but moved to White Plains, NY in his childhood. He enlisted from VT, offering an address in Grand Isle, VT. When he was in, he spent time in San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in CA, and referred to Marysville, WA, as home in official paperwork. When he passed, he was stationed in Newport RI, where he also attended RTC and TM “A” school. Breault’s service emphasizes the contribution these states have made to the success of the submarine force and if connected, will allow several major regions in the US to benefit from the namesake.
For those looking to see the evidence I have connecting Breault to their community, please reach out!
After taking inspiration from the USS Montpelier and USS Vermont Support Groups (two of the most active groups), I have created a page to channel organization of these efforts. For those who are a member of USSVI, The Navy League, Naval Submarine LEague, VFW, American Legion, or other veteran's group, please consider introducing this petition for consideration of support!
