Banning Plastic Straws and Plastic Bags in Calgary, AB Canada

The Issue

With over 1 million people living in Calgary, plastic straws and plastic bags are used daily with billions of straws and bags being used and sent to landfills each year. Plastic takes 1000 years to decompose and burning plastic creates toxic fumes that are harmful to our  atmosphere. If we ban plastic straws and bags, businesses will now be held responsible for plastic waste rather than the consumer. Plastic straws and bags can be easily replaced with biodegradable straws, paper straws, paper bags, and cloth bags. Calgary being one of the fastest developing cities in Canada would set an excellent example for other cities to join in. There are steps we can take to help our earth and our environment, you can sign this petition or email your councillor and ask them to do something about this problem. Calgary can change for the better!
