Keeping Early Years Unique
14 giu 2018
I continue to be amazed at your support as we face some of the darkest days in education. As supporters of this petition you stand with me and most nations in the world in recognising the power of extending early year principles to Yr1. Unfortunately the complete opposite is on the cards and the reception year looks to be making a very sharp and real move towards even more formality and abstract learning. Currently the end of year goals for children to achieve at the end of reception (the Early Learning Goals) are being rewritten by a panel that the DfE would not reveal until their hand was forced and multiple foi's were submitted. The fact they are being rewritten is not necessarily a bad thing. The government have stated they will discuss these changes with early years experts and that they will look to latest child development evidence to make sure any changes are appropriate. The problem is that vast majority of the panel selected have very little, if any, experience teaching reception. There are also individuals from companies set to profit as in the light of OFSTED's Bold beginning we see an even bigger push on phonics and maths schemes. There are companies who design tests for children, and individuals who are very focussed on ensuring children are taught very specific knowledge which is completely inappropriate in subjects such as history, geopraphy and science. ...And there are others too. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE DECIDING THE FUTURE OF RECEPTION! What they do will impact on every child entering school. Now I could be completely wrong. This panel, despite the obvious lack of experience of the majority, could somehow give YrR teachers completely appropriate goals...but in the light of OFSTED's bold beginnings, and the clear politicial agendas at play here, quite frankly I doubt it. Please get involved now and sign this petition to demand a halt to this flawed process. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/halt-the-eyfs-review-until-a-panel-with-true-eys-experts-only-is-convened
