Keeping Early Years Unique
Apr 12, 2018
Yesterday the government announced a company called NFER will be providing the test that looks set to cost £9.8million and much more in children’s mental health as we embark again on testing our 4 and 5 year olds as they start school. Trials will start in September testing children’s maths and literacy skills.
We cannot stand by and allow our youngest children to be tested like this. The questions around what will happen to their data remains unanswered.
This isn’t just about teachers or anyone else working with children making a stand, it’s about us a society saying NO. It’s about parents and carers realising that the government plan to test their children at an age when legally they haven’t even got to be in school. Ultimately children aren’t being measured. Their parents and carers are.
I passionately believe we can and will stop this test becoming a reality, but for that to happen everyone who cares about young children needs to get involved. Please join me in saying no to baseline testing.
