Last Thursday I launched my charity, Teach Us Too, to further the aims of this campaign. Teach Us Too aims to challenge attitudes and assumptions based on labels; influence educational practice and encourage ambition; and share good practice for practitioners and parents alike. As the founder of Teach Us Too, I am hoping my book and media presence will go some way to breaking down attitudes and assumptions, and I am also planning to feature other children who have defied the label assigned to them. I have attended a teacher training institution to partner with them to formulate a plan to influence the ambition that new teachers have for their pupils in regards to literacy teaching. We are also visiting schools who teach their PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilites) students to read and write in order to showcase their good work and signpost practitioners and parents alike to the great literacy resources around.
