To the more than 21,000 people who have signed this petition...thank you. It is that time between Christmas and new year's day where, whether I like it or not, I find myself reflecting on where we are.
Your signatures and energy and support served to get a young woman into treatment AND started a much larger conversation about the lack of eating disorder treatment in our communities.
Over the past week alone I have been working closely with three other families who are fighting to save their children's lives. In one case, the 13 year old has a BMI of 13, is medically unstable, fainted the other morning, and there isn't a single program or place that will take her in. The hospitals send her home. They are on two waiting lists and have been told they will wait 6 months for a CONSULTATION. We have called US based programs but they won't admit her because she is medically unstable. WHAT?!
Please get loud with me, with us this year. I will continue to spend these holidays fighting to help the families and clients I work with. I refuse to give up. I am drafting a formal letter now to our members of Parliament and am going back to the news stations. If you can help us in any way, please send me a message: Anita@MidlandDBT.com
