My Data, My Rules: A Petition for Stronger Cybersecurity Awareness in Schools
The Issue
Statement of Purpose: We, the undersigned students, educators, and community members,
are calling on school administrators and education officials to strengthen cybersecurity
awareness and protection in schools. We believe that every student has the right to learn in a
safe digital environment where their personal information, online accounts, and digital activities
are protected. As technology becomes an important part of education, students must also be
taught how to protect themselves from online threats and use digital platforms responsibly.
Why This Issue Matters: Students use the internet every day for learning, communication,
social media, and accessing information. However, many students may not be fully aware of the
risks of sharing personal information online, using weak passwords, clicking suspicious links, or
becoming victims of scams, phishing, and other cyber threats. A lack of cybersecurity
knowledge can put students’ privacy and personal data at risk. By improving cybersecurity
education, schools can help students become more responsible and informed digital citizens
who know how to protect their information and make safer choices online.
Call to Action: We urgently call upon the Department of Education (DepEd) and local school
administrations to take action by:
● Strengthening Cybersecurity Education: Providing regular seminars, workshops, and
lessons that teach students how to protect their personal information, recognize online
threats, and practice safe internet habits.
● Protecting Student Data: Strengthening school policies and security measures to
ensure that students’ personal information, academic records, and online accounts are
properly protected from unauthorized access.
● Promoting Digital Responsibility: Encouraging students, teachers, and school staff to
practice responsible online behavior, including using strong passwords, protecting
account information, avoiding suspicious links, and reporting cyber threats.
Sign this petition today and stand with us in promoting “My Data, My Rules.” Together, we can
create schools where students are not only educated academically but are also prepared to
protect their privacy, personal information, and digital identities. Let us make cybersecurity a
shared responsibility and ensure that every student can use technology safely, responsibly, and
confidently.
