Save Mumbai's history

Save Mumbai's history
The Issue
Today there is a lack of infrastructures to support any further commercial / residential structures in the island city of Mumbai.
The Government wants to build a new high-rise building near to the Marine Drive Police Station, in Churchgate. They have decided to demolish 4 old, beautiful Barracks in order to build housing for Government staff and a hostel for visiting MLAs or government staff. This building would be build on a plot which is marked as a “Parking Lot” in the last Development Plan of Mumbai (1991). This is a potential violation of the zoning rules. In addition to the fact that the BMC will have to cut nearly a dozen old trees (some tress are over 50 years old, adding to the imbalance of the environment of our neighbourhood), a new building in this narrow lane also means traffic and congestion. The island city of Mumbai is losing yet another opportunity to retain an open space for a public use. Yes, we need to improve the existing barrack currently being used for the Marine Drive Police Station. But we don’t need to demolish the other 3 barracks that are a part of the history of Mumbai and an open space to house more government officials.
Keep The Barracks Open For Us, But Closed for New Vertical Construction.
