The MTA recently released their Proposed Final Plan for Queens where they are proposing to eliminate a net of 1,400 bus stops in Queens. That is roughly the same number of stops they proposed to eliminate in their first draft. For every bus stop they decided not to eliminate, they replaced it with a new stop to eliminate. They clearly have not listened to us.
The only way to stop this horrible plan is to let your elected official know the hardship this will cause you and that eliminating one third of the bus stops violates domestic standards and will cause long walks to bus stops and make your trip longer not shorter. That you will not stand for a cost cutting measure to be disguised as an improvement. That walking up to 3/4 of a mile to a bus stop is just unacceptable. That faster buses does not necessarily mean faster trips. That lightly utilized bus stops are skipped anyway when nobody gets on or off and eliminating them saves no time, but just causes longer walks and may cause you to miss a bus making your trip take much longer.
Making your voice heard to as many elected officials as you can is the only way we can get the MTA to relent. Don’t know who to write to? Don’t worry. Just go to PassengersUnited.org, type in your address and find out who to contact. It’s that easy.
If they are bombarded with phone calls and e-mails, we won’t be ignored. Continue to share the petition and consider joining Passengers United. It doesn’t cost anything to join and they are the only transit organization in NYC that truly represents transit riders. I am o Board Member.
If you live in Queens express yourself at your next Community Board meeting. Thank you.
