Our humble respect to all non-Polish who participated in the petition leaving many heartwarming comments.
The rally tomorrow commences as planned at 1 PM at City Hall.
As for all of the Polish descent, Katyń Memorial Committee (the organizer) asks to display your pride in being the part of the community with our colors.
Bring with you "biało-czerwona" (white and red flag) or dress in our colors to show that Poles are also the very part of the United States with deep roots in the country's history for which many of our ancestors fought and died.
There will be another demonstration to show full support for the Polish -Americans and all those who care about Katyn memorial in Jersey City.
It will take place also this Saturday, May 12th at the Katyn monument starting at 4 PM at:
St. Adalbert's Cemetery
6800 N. Milwaukee Ave,
Niles, Illinois
(Niles is a suburb of Chicago)
If you know anybody in the area who would like to join and show their support, please get in touch with them!
On the 73rd anniversary of the end of World War II, which claimed the lives of over 6 million Polish citizens, the US President Donald Trump signed Act S. 447 that discriminates against Polish Catholic Holocaust survivors and against Polish Americans. The legislation excludes all Polish Catholic Holocaust survivors and their families from any compensation for the German war crimes. The dissenting voices of Polish Americans were not heard by the US Congress and by President Trump during the legislative process. Therefore, we want to speak out during the Katyn rally on May 12 not only for the Polish victims executed by Soviets in Katyn forest but also symbolically mention the forgotten 3 million ethnic Polish victims of the brutal German occupation of Poland. Act S. 447 forgot them completely. We need to remind this fact to the US congressmen and President Trump.
Please remember though that the main aim of the rally is protecting Katyn memorial and the truth it speaks.
We are still running the petition and will continue so until we know the monument stays in its rightful place or gets another prominent location agreed with the Polish community and those who share our views.
Let it be an example for the future and a reminder that all the communities in Jersey City, in the United States are equal and deserve equal respect.
