For your information, the final processing site (TPA) in Indonesia is threatened to reach its maximum capacity in the next two or three years. Actually, this is not surprising with the fact that in every single day, 7000 tonnes of waste enter the Bantargebang landfill (TPA). That’s why it’s expected to be full this year. At the same time, Cipeucang landfill is so full that hundreds tons of garbage have to be moved.

When all the landfills are full, where will our waste be disposed to?

Currently, Indonesia produces a lot of waste. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) even said that national waste generation increased every year, from 64 million tons in 2019 to 67.8 million tons in 2020. We are also known as the second largest contributor of plastic waste to the world's oceans.

Data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry also says that 30% of the total waste is not managed properly and is polluting the environment. Not to mention the emission generated from the pile of waste! If this is how we do it, how can we achieve the zero waste target by 2025?

Actually, Indonesia already has various legal bases for managing waste. Act (Undang-undang) No. 18 of 2008, Government Regulation (Peraturan Pemerintah) No. 18 of 2012, Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 97 of 2017 concerning National Policy and Strategy (Jakstranas), and Presidential Regulation No. 83 of 2018 concerning Marine Waste Management.

What's missing? Of course the enforcement of the rules. The problem is, there are still many regulations that have not been implemented. Some examples of regulations that have not been implemented are that everyone has the right to receive guidance so that they can carry out good and environmentally friendly waste management (Article 11: 1E), the Government provides incentives to everyone who reduces waste, and provides disincentives for those who do not reduce waste Article 21), and the district / city government provides waste sorting facilities at the district / city scale (Article 17: 4).

Therefore, through this petition, we Indonesians, environmental activists, coastal rivers and seas communities, communities that are affected by pile of garbage, the younger generation, and stakeholders, ask and invite Mr. President to enforce regulations on waste management and waste reduction for the realization of a good waste management system.

We are sure that with the enforcement of solid waste regulations and implemented by all parties, from the government (central, provincial, regional), the private sector, and the community, the target for Indonesia is Clean and Free of Waste by 2025 will be achieved.

Let’s support this petition, it’s time to move and show your support to realize a Clean and Waste Free Indonesia by signing this petition!

Greetings for Zero Waste!
